Having taught in America, the differences in the food and overall lunchtime approach was quite striking. So I thought I would share this with my Western readers. Overall I found then quite tasty, much healthier, but extremely limited in choices and quantity. In my experience American school lunches were buffet style with unlimited quantities, multiple choices, and unfortunately were not so healthy in some cases. Plus vending machines with soft drinks and chips were available in the US schools. Not so in Tokyo schools. This book shows 29 pictures of actual lunches I ate in four Tokyo Japan Junior High Schools where I taught . There are also descriptions of each lunch in both English and Japanese. I enjoyed all of them, except for one. The biggest surprise was the one food they served me which was, I thought, extremely inappropriate, to put it nicely.Plus there is some other information about school lunches in public schools in Japan. I hope you enjoy it !
